"Stoic" is the first piece from my Beinart Gallery show made into a print edition. Seeing a concerted movement of young intellectuals trying to revitalize the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius for a generation of troubled, distracted, self absorbed complainers, I envisioned Aurelius on his side being propped up by a makeshift scaffold. The contents of his outlook spills out of one side while the wisdom of the understanding of it breaks out of his cranium in the form of a living tree. -David Welkerpen and ink on paper
