Moon Editions is pleased to present the release of Necromancer, the first hand embellished serigraph from german draftsman extraordinaire Florian Bertmer.
Necromancer marks the first in a series of three unique multiples by Florian to be released by Moon this winter, all of which were created during the artists recent residency in San Francisco. The original illustration was completed during the creation of the “other projects” and contains elements that thematically intertwine the two. Necromancer is the first of the series to be made available, since it may offer clues as to what the remaining projects could be.
As it was a rare opportunity to have Florian present during the printing, we decided to experiment with the process a bit. Florian wanted a starker feel to the colors, so we started out by mixing a muted pallet based roughly on early tintypes / sepia photographs. Once the first colors were printed Florian began altering the films with ink, giving the illustration a cruder quality, creating a somewhat subtle antique feel to the image. Before the last color was printed Florian took it upon himself to add a little extra to each print..
“As you might know my prints usually aren`t signed by myself due to the fact that I live in Germany while my prints are made in the US. Luckily i was around for the whole printing process so we decided to not only have them signed in person but give each print two hand drawn embellishments plus one hand painted highlight. As you might guess that took quite some time haha.”
Necromancer is limited to an edition of 40, and will be available in the Moon Shop on October 18th at 2 p.m
