Andrew Atroshenko was born in Pokrovsk, USSR, a small town in what is now the Sakha Republic of Russia in 1965. In 1977 Atroshenko was accepted into the state-run Children’s Art School as a "gifted child" graduating with honors in 1981. Atroshenko entered the Bryansk Art College in 1983, and was later accepted into the St. Petersburg Academy of Art in in 1991. In 1992 Atroshenko married fellow student, Maria, now an art critic in St Petersburg, Russia. The two have one daughter, Alexandra. Atroshenko credits his wife and daughter as the inspiration for his passion in his works. His first exhibitions began in 1994 at such institutions as St. Petersburg Artists in Reutlingen, Germany, an “Academy” group exhibition in St. Petersburg (1996), and the “Teacher’s Memory” exhibition (1997). Following his graduation from the St. Petersburg Academy of Art in 1999, Atroshenko received an invitation from the New England based art group “Bay Arts” to participate in their exhibitions and activities. Atroshenko would spend that entire year in the U.S. and observed the American way of life. He reflected that, “This year in America gave me more as an artist then all eight years of my formal studies in the prestigious Russian academies." Continuing, " I am a descendent of farmers, and I was impressed by the New England’s landscapes, and how a man in America avoids harming its environment." This lead him to the ArtExpo New York in 2000, where he saw the works of Royo and Pino, which he said, "I suddenly realized what direction I want to take my art in." Following his stay in the U.S., Atroshenko returned to Russia, where he spent two more years, "perfecting my art." Atroshenko's work continues to be sold successfully in galleries across the United States. He has also participated in a variety of group exhibitions and auctions to sell-out crowds in France. Atroshenko continues to work with dealers from around the world, exhibiting and selling his paintings in boutique galleries across the United States as well as online. Two of Atroshenko's original pieces have recently been auctioned off through Sotheby’s in both 2002 and 2003. Contact
