From artist, Eric Tan - "Here's my print for the #artawakens show in its entirety. When coming up with the concept, I went back and watched a documentary on how the initial Idea for #starwars popped into George Lucas' head. A major influence came from the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa. So many of the elements found in the original trilogy - from the Jedi, to the sabers, to the princess, heck even R2 and 3PO - can be traced back to elements found in Kurosawa's films. I started to see the whole Star Wars universe more as 'Samurai warriors in space' adventure. Going back to research Kurosawa's films and the posters for them was an amazing education in itself & I can see why they left such a lasting impression on Lucas. Here's my take on #episode7 with the Kurosawa/samurai inspiration. The sale of this print, and much much cooler pieces of Star Wars art, benefit charity and are available this weekend at #gallery1988 ! #badrobot #lucasfilm #disney #starwarsart #kyloren @john_boyega @daisyridley @galleries1988"

This weekend, at Gallery1988 (West), join us for what is sure to be one of the most talked about art exhibits of the year - Art Awakens. 3 years in the making, we have teamed up with The Walt Disney Company, LucasFilm and Bad Robot to celebrate the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, while raising money for a worthwhile cause.

Almost 100 pieces of artwork have been created to pay homage to the film series and the upcoming new release, all set to debut with a special weekend event you can attend. The pieces will be on display Saturday, Nov. 14th and Sunday, Nov. 15th from 11 AM - 10 PM each day at G1988 (West).

A majority of the artwork will become available on eBay Friday, with 7 screenprints being exclusive for in-gallery purchase only, so even outside of Los Angeles you can enjoy the show. We will also be sending out an email and updating our social media with the eBay link once it is live. After Sunday, this show will no longer be on display, so make sure to stop by if you can!

SOME IMPORTANT NOTES: There is a STRICT one screenprint (per artist) per person & payment method rule. There is a very limited amount of these screenprints created, considering the subject matter. There will be NO LINING UP at the gallery early Friday. There will be security at the gallery making sure there is no line before 11:30 PM on Friday night.
