I’ve always been of the opinion that if you were to make the same poster for Mastodon, as you would for Madonna, you are doing something wrong. The challenge, and the fun, of making posters is to bend your artistic vision (without meaning to sound too grand), and fit it to the aesthetics of the act you are working with. It allows you to try out new approaches and methods that you would perhaps not otherwise attempt, some are successful and stick with you, while others are discarded as soon as the project is over. I’ve always found working within the poster world to be a great way of learning. You are given a lot of creative control over the work you make, but you always need to be mindful of how that band or artist would want to be visually represented, since they already have a sonic, and to some extent a visual foundation to work from.

So, when... asked...to work on a poster for Florence and The Machine, I knew I could allow myself to take a few risks and work outside my usual comfort zone, since I’m pretty confident in saying that a multiple eyed, rainbow vomiting beast would not be an appropriate subject matter. I delved through books on religious iconography, and listened to Florence and The Machine, and came up with this. Hopefully I’ve struck a balance between my work and doing justice to representing the band.

I believe the poster will be on sale at Bestival, and I will have a very small number to sell afterwards.
