Alternative rock pioneers Dinosaur Jr. reissued their first three albums — Dinosaur (1985), You’re Living All Over Me (1987) and Bug (1988) — on vinyl last month, and now they’re resurrecting an even more seldom-seen medium of music: the cassette tape. In a special box set distributed by Joyful Noise Recordings, the band will now release these first three albums in cassette format.

This box set reissue is being released in extremely limited quantity: Only 500 copies will be produced. Though Bug was granted a cassette reissue earlier in the year, both Dinosaur and You’re Living All Over Me haven’t been issued in this format since their initial release. The collection is packaged in a specially built wooden box emblazoned with Dinosaur Jr.’s classic “monster” artwork.

Of the 500 copies that have been made, 350 are available for purchase online for $39. The other 150 can be found at the various stops along Dinosaur Jr.’s West Coast tour in December, where the band will perform Bug in its entirety. The dates can be viewed below:

December
12 — Costa Mesa, Calif. @ Segerstrom Center for the Arts
13 — Solana Beach, Calif. @ Belly Up Tavern
14 — Los Angeles, Calif. @ The Music Box
15 — San Francisco, Calif. @ The Fillmore
16 — Portland, Ore. @ Crystal Ballroom
17 — Seattle, Wash. @ Showbox at the Market
