Hello there. Here's a new print that I've called 'Clamour', which is a collective noun for a gathering of rooks; it also means 'a loud noise or outcry'. Rooks are large black birds that, high in treetops, build collections of large nests - called rookeries - with a beautiful disregard for neatness. Corvus Frugilevus is what these garrulous birds are called in Latin, but I much prefer the name Rook, which is almost how you would spell the call they make from their clumped, twiggy roosts or as they wheel in the air. Their gatherings are also known as Parliaments, but that word has some unfortunate connotations, I think.

Rooks do clamour as the light fades from the day; an almost eerie concatenation of calling. This drawing is loosely based on a memory of a rookery I saw near the village of Hathersage in the Peak District of England. I don't remember if there was a waning moon that evening, but I've put one in the picture anyway.

If such things interest you, the picture was made with very thin-nibbed pens, coloured pencils that make marks which are are soluble in water (amazing!) and a new type of pen I've discovered that has a really teeny brush instead of a nib. Very nice for drawing rooks.

This print is available only via The Lost Domain; the edition is a timed release that will be available to order on June 9th from 18:00 GMT+1 for the following 48 hours.
