The Wild Dogs were a gang of cartoonists that Dan O'Neill organized in 1984 to cover the Democratic convention in San Francisco. They also addressed some local political issues of the day. From their headquarters in the dressing room of the O'Farrell Theatre (the Mitchell Brothers' legendary adult entertainment palace where Hunter S. Thompson had once been night manager) they produced a daily quarter-page for the San Francisco Chronicle. This poster by R. Crumb and Victor Moscoso is an artifact of that brief venture into political journalism. Moscoso drew the picture of Diane Feinstein, then mayor of San Francisco. Crumb drew the Wild Dog logo and the little figures scurrying around under Feinstein's skirt. Fewer than 1,000 copies were printed. Some were put up on lampposts and telephone poles around Feinstein's Pacific Heights mansion and the rest were scattered around in the city hall rotunda, except for a few that O'Neill took home.
