In 97, when I was still living pretty much day-to-day, this guy from TICKET CONNECTION approached me. This was during a 2-month stretch when I was back and forth every few weeks between Seattle and Texas. He wanted me to do a poster that advertised their place...and that they had U2 seats left...they were into that show for like, 10,000.00 worth of tickets.
So, they like KNEW what THEY wanted...they just needed 'hands' to put it together. So, they give me this bad photo that it looked like they clipped out of the paper, and said, 'We want this to be the image. And they basically went through their dingbat font menus, picked out the speaker and alien graphic...all of it...the colors...everything. I was being art-directed by a ticket seller...
but he was paying me 2 grand and 50 of the final product.
Obviously, if you want to see 'undisturbed' work of mine from this period...just take a look at the Death In June...or Faith No More, or Voluptuous Horror Of Karen Black...etc. A lot of collectors of my work have even avoided this poster altogether, without even hearing the real story, since there was something obviously 'different' about this one...
