This is a Chromolithograph on canvas by Arthur Hutchins, a prolific illustrator of the early 20th Century
This action scene appeared on the cover of National Sportsmen Magazine April 1914. It was also used in their annual calendar. Because of its popularity, the company produced a limited number of chromolithographs on canvas, of which this is one.
The chromolithographic process used to create this work has fooled quite a few people who thought that this piece was an oil painting. Because it is laid on canvas the ink has definite texture, it is easy to see how some people might think this is a painting. The colors are rich and vivid. This piece is signed in the lower left corner by Arthur Hutchins.
This piece measures 22 X 17 framed. There is a bit of cracklier to the surface (which makes it look even more like a painting.) There is also a bit of surface dirt and stretcher impressions on the canvas.
