b. Bordeau, 11/27/1827; d. Nogent sur Marne, 7/29/1886 Maxime Lalanne was the leading artist behind the etching revival in France in the second half of the 19th century. Founding member in 1862 of the Société des Aquafortistes. He wrote an illustrated manual "Traité de la Gravure à l'Eau-Forte," published in 1866 and translated into English in 1880, and produced a second technical manual, "Le Fusain," in 1869. Lalanne's drawings were often critical of the Second Empire, illustrating working-class industrial Parisian neighborhoods. Contact
